It's true that some of the newer flash memory SIMMS simply will not work
with the older Boot ROMs in the 2500 series router.

No doubt just about anything can be bought on ebay. BUT - if you're not
in a hurry you can order boot roms for 2500 series routers for FREE from
Cisco.

Call Cisco Customer Service 800 553-6387, Option 3 to order replacement
Boot ROMs. They are free, but Cisco will tell you that you have to pay
for shipping. The part number is BOOT-2500=.

I ordered some a few months ago and although Cisco took my credit card
number they did not charge me for shipping. But they did take about 2
weeks to arrive.

Good point. The router with the problem may be running old boot prom
chips.
  If your flash works in other routers, but not this one, upgrade your
boot
prom chips. Sh Version would indicate. You can get the pair on ebay
for
about $10.
