Well it could be because a lot of companies or institutions like the one I
just went to work for only have say 20 or so 6509's and a 6513.
However, every single site has a combination of 3524's, 3548's, and you got
it 3550's. BTW each site has 20+ of these. So the core at each remote
location has either a 4000 or a 3550. The older design called for a 6509 at
each location.
This network is fairly large with over 14,000+ desktops and and the total
capacity of switched 10/100 ports exceeds 6500+.
There are a lot of 3550's on this campus network.
