cat 5k logging

hi guys ;
i have a confusing in the cat5k logging
what is meant by facility ?? ..is it differnet when i log to server than i log
to telnet session .

in the server logging i have to define the facility as local0 or local1 and so
on while it shows in the show logging command as [ all , tcp, spantree ..so on
}
can anyone explain what is the facility mean ?

aslo the severity ? does it mean the level at which i can log certain message {
 like i want to log the information message of the spantree for example ??}

can anyone explain to me what those terms mean ?
