I vote with Hansang. I've "hot swapped" 7500 three times (7505, 7507, and
7513) and crashed the router two of those times; only succeeded once. Since
then, I allign the IOS on the new RSP on an off-line router, then shut down
production router, insert new RSP, and power up. Have had perfect success
this way; downtime is less than 5 minutes. Ditto when adding interface
modules on a 7500.
By the way, I've had similar bad luck "hot swapping" Supervisors on Catalyst
6509, but excellent luck with hot swapping interface modules.
