 What are the static routes used for? Is there another router attached to
network A. If so, the router will still send out the ICMP redirects to the
hosts trying to reach this remote network. If the traffic is originating on
the router it will still use the static routes configured.

Subject: Routing question

Hi Everyone,

My co-worker has asked me a specific question.

He has a Cisco router with 2 ethernet interfaces A & B. Workstations on
network A use the router as a default gateway. There are static routes
pointing out to the network on A.

If he either disconnects the cable from Interface B or does a shutdown
on
Interface B will the router still route out Interface A? Specifically
the
static routes?

Please let me know what you think is going to happen.

Thanks,

George Mandel
