Pinging the group address is probably a good enough way to test a multicast
config for the purposes of learning this material (if not for running a
major multicast sending company).
If ip igmp join-group is 229.1.1.1, then just ping that address from a good
spot in the multicast tree, and then watch the replies come in from all the
multicast-enable router interfaces.
