Eric,
There seems to be much confusion between October and November dates.
I looked at that page you mentioned on the cisco site but only found this
text:
"Therefore, effective November 4th, 2002, the following topics will no
longer be tested on the CCIE Routing and Switching exam:
IGRP
Token Ring
Token Ring Switching
IPX
Please note that DLSw+ will remain as a valid topic on the exam. "
It was at
http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/625/ccie/ccie_program/whatsnew.html#18
I've also mailed cisco and their response is below..
Does that help ?. Could you mail me the url where you saw the oct 4th date
if possible...
Best Regards,
Malcolm

Interesting...here is what I got off of the website yesterday.
"CCIE candidates should note changes to the technical content and equipment
in the lab exam. Effective October 1st, 2002, candidates will no longer be
tested in the areas of IGRP, Token Ring, Token Ring Switching, or IPX. Note:
DLSW+ will remain as a protocol that can be tested in the lab. The Catalyst
5500 switch will be replaced with the Catalyst 3550."
I believe this was under the "What's New" section all the way at the bottom.

Note: It's effective November 4, 2002 not October 4, 2002.
Here's the excerpt:
Therefore, effective November 4th, 2002, the following topics will no longer
be tested on the CCIE Routing and Switching exam:
IGRP
Token Ring
Token Ring Switching
IPX
Please note that DLSw+ will remain as a valid topic on the exam.

Subject: CCIE Lab changes - Read this
Hi all,
Just had a mail from Cisco re: the latest LAB changes. My lab is on Oct 4th
so its all related to that date. Anyway here goes,:
----start---
(Q1). Will IGRP, Token Ring, Token Ring Switching and IPX will be included
in
the lab on Oct. 4th 2002 ?.
Cisco response :Yes.
(Q2). Will the catalyst 5000 series switches be included o Oct. 4th, 2002 ?
Cisco response : Maybe. Equipment will be phased in between Sept. and Nov.
You may have a
cat 5000 or you may have 3550's.
(Q3). and if not (the 5000's) will you still be using the equivilant "set"
command language and features (i.e. trunking/etherchannel/multicasting etc)
on another switch with the same "set" language / features.
Cisco response : The 3550's are IOS command based. We will use the
equivalent commands within it's command set.
(Q4). Are there any additional features being introduced before/on Oct 4th.?
Cisco response : No.
(Q5). In a nutshell, will the lab on Oct 4th, 2002 be the same as it is
today, June 2002 ?
Cisco response : Yes, with the exception of a potential equipment
replacement.
----end----
Hope this helps,
Regards,
Malcolm
