Depending on the version of code on your switches, you can run an
l2trace from the CLI on Cat5000s and 6000s. I believe 6.x and higher
incorporate it... Here's a sample output:
bnc-nyc-c6509-dmz-2> (enable) l2trace 00-10-58-04-1a-e8
00-50-8b-2e-04-ef
Starting L2 Trace
2/3 : 10.0.0.69 : 1/1-2
1/1-2 : 10.0.0.68 : 2/16
1/1 : 10.0.0.70 : 4/20
bnc-nyc-c6509-dmz-2> (enable)

Does anyone know of any good applications capable of a layer 2 trace? I
am tweaking spanning-tree in my network and want to be assured of my
path selection. I know CiscoWorks is capable but am looking for a small
app. Thanks. =20 =20 =20
