Hi Irene,

the rule is: Every OSPF process will chose a different RID, and the order
depends on the configuration (i.e. after a reload, IOS allocates a RID in
the order the processes are defined in the configuration). The algorithm
each process uses is the same (i.e. loopbacks first, then highest IP
address, etc.).
If you have 10 processes, but only 9 interfaces with IP addresses, the last
OSPF process fails to start.
