I'm think Jason's suggestion might be your best bet in this
situation.
The important thing here is that you identify the problem and solve it.
The "no keepalives" will not get this done. Too many time we(network folks)
run away from the physical layer, to trouble-shoot what we believe is a
higher
layer issue. Recieving lost carrier messages indicate "a loss of the
electrical signaling
on the wire that completes the closed circuit to form the ethernet
connection.
This could translate into a bad port on the router switch or hub or a badly
made
cable be it 568A or 568B. A decent cable tester could clear the cable,
which would
allow to work upwards within the model.
