Chris,
By default OSPF selects the best Path. Without going
into Best Path selection criteria I give you the
answer.

Use the maximum-paths command under OSPF (remnote or
recieving routers) to allow more than one path to the
routing table. OSPF allows only equal cost load
balancing. So your type to metric selection is right
the choice in this scenrio.
