RE: how to shutdown the aux?

Wouldn't it be better just to put some long and convoluted username and
password on the line so that even if someone did dial in, they wouldn't
get anywhere?

Otherwise, disable your exec/login on the line (or async-group if that's
how you configured it). You won't be able to get to the modem itself to
issue commands while you are dialed into it. It's one of those logical
conundrums.

You could modify your chat scripts also when issuing the reset to either
NOT include the ATS0=1 command, or reissue an ATS0=0 command so it will
never answer. That way, your current session is still cool.

If you're looking to deter common people from demon dialing you, you
might consider changing it to ATS0=10 or something like that where it
will wait 10 rings to answer. Most modem (incoming) connect timers will
expire before that point, so it's a mild deterrent that way. You could
adjust your own timers on your machine that's dialing in.

Just some thoughts.

Scott

Subject: how to shutdown the aux?

My lab device is in my office, so I want to dial to the lab device from
some aux port connecting to a modem, but after my practice, I dont hope
the router with the aux does not answer any call any more even though
they are powered. HOW?
