Regarding rule #1, if you disregard it, it will enforce itself for you in a way
 that may surprise you in today's largely classless IP world by installing a st
atic route to the classful network and then setting the default network to that
 classful network.

Undoing this "automatic action" involves a little more than simply removing the
 'ip default-network' command. You'll also need to remove the static route manu
ally and then clear the routing table.
