Hello Dave, thanks for your input. I have just re-read my previous email,
appologies, I meant to say that TAC state that the ROMMON mode is not
supported at all. The interresting thing is that Cisco documentation out on
the Cisco web site indicates that ROMMON mode on the second MSFC is
supported until Dec 2002.

redund.htm

SRM is supported without reservation by Cisco! Previous to SRM, if you
wanted only one MSFC operational per chassis there was only one valid option
(that I know of) and that is to put the second MSFC into ROMMON mode. Layer
2 redundancy mandated that both active and standby sup had to have the same
hardware config but at the time there was no redundant mechanism for router
failover unless both MSFC routers were used in an HSRP config within the
same chassis. This (as far as I know) is how the ROMMON mechanism came
about.

best regards

Ki

Who in the world said SRM is not supported by Cisco????

SRM works well and I prefer it over config sync in systems with dual
MSFC's. It takes three whole commands and your up and running. I am
running SRM in the lab right now and at serverl customer sights.

Why would you want to leave the second MSFC in ROMMON? I never heard
of this option as it seems redicules on it's face since the reason I
assume you bought two SUP/MSFC's is for redundancy.
