Unlike me, there are some exceptionally smart people out there. I tend to
agree with Robert's comment. In reality, I know the test has become harder.
But available study material, more access to more equipment (than 3 years
ago let's say), more group studying, more momentum, more nda violators, etc,
has made the process easier, I think, despite the test being harder. But I
still contend that there are some people who can do this in 16 months, from
no experience to CCIE, and still hold their own in the real world, although
it is rare. I know a guy who passed the CCIE lab exam on his first attempt
around 2+ years ago by studying theory and not practicing in the lab
(#5069). He is that smart. He can take the theory into his head, then apply
it easily without practice. If I didn't know him personally, I would never
believe this claim.
Although we all want this cert to remain highly valuable, and I think it
will, I am taking a view of the journey being the most important part. Even
if I never get around to passing, each hour I spend studying is improving me
professionally and technically.
