By default RIP does the summary at the classfull boundary. IP summary-address c
ommand only applicable on RIP ver 2 because only RIP v2 supports vlsm,

That does present a problem...

On the border router for RIP, you may be able to change the subnet mask of
the interface pointing to the RIP routing domain to the classful boundary.

This is RIP v1 and summarization is already on. I
cannot use the ip summary-address under the interface
(not supported for rip v1).
