Would really like some help on a funny problem I faced with a Cisco 2501
Router.
Background :
1. Cisco 2501 with 16mb/16mb : working fine until this morning. Powered on and
it landed into the RX Boot prompt.
2. CHecked Flash and it indicated an invalid checksum
3. So, I attempted to do a TFTP push of the flash image I had on my PC to the
router.
4. Everything worked fine : at the end it said invalid checksum and aborted
out.
5 So I redid the exercise with a premise that there might have been an error
during transmission of the image. Whereupon the trouble started -> To push a
new flash image it has to delete the old one ... when it attempted to delete
the old flash image on the router it said something to the effect of "cannot
erase File Aborted"
6. I checked what was there in flash and got a shock - NOTHING was present -
the full 16 MB available.
So I figured I would attempt to push the Flash image again using Cisco RSL
utility (cpwinst.exe) - it aborted.
I tried using the TFTP push : No luck
All pointing to the same error more or less - cannot erase flash ...but since
my flash is empty ...I cant see whats holding up this simple push of a flash
!! Am I missing something
I checked the Flash slots with another set of working Flash SIMMs - all is
fine - sonothing wrong with the router socket hardware or such like.
Individually, the SIMMS register 8mb each and together 16mb but since they are
empty now, they are giving strange errors
Kindly help and apologise for the long winded note !!!
Any news of the rest of the group on how they faired - someone was on for the
17th right ? - Do let us know what happened !!
Thanks
