Steven,

If the remote backup peer does not have promiscuous specified both
connections will remain in a connected state. This is due to the fact that
the peer you are intending as a backup will initiate the connection and thus
over-ride the backup behaviour.

                All

I have configured a backup peer between two routers, no
linger times are
specified but both peers are always in a connect state, I
thought the backup
peer should have been in a disconnect state until the
primary peer failed,
this is according to Solie (Page 921), however after finding
numerous errors
in this book I am beginning to doubt it as a decent source
of reference.

I will look on CCO, I just wondered if anyone had seen this
behaviour
                before.

                Thanks

                Steve
