I completely appreciate my employer the more I read all these posts. I
guess I have the best of all possibilities. They have provided me with a
complete lab at their cost, they pay for all costs of all attempts (2
failures so far), and they gain nothing in terms of financial benefit from
Cisco if I pass. Ironically, they barely recognize what the CCIE is, except
that the possibility exists that we will leave when we get it, and that it
is generally THE networking cert available. They plan to initiate an
immediate raise for passing, but along with that, a 2 year commitment to
them if they pay for it all, although neither of those is in place at this
time. They pay me above average for this market, the environment is
laid-back, the pressure is low, the hours are mostly M-F 8-5, the risk of
layoffs is virtually nil, and 95% of the people I work with are very
pleasant. The more I write this out, the more I think I must have died and
gone to heaven. :)
I hope I didn't sound like I was bragging. I just wanted to include one of
the possibilities that does exist.
