You can also telnet into tty lines instead of vty by:
telnet 192.168.0.1 2005 (ethernet address for term server and tty for async
cable 5)

Line 18 is my regular telnet session(port 23) into the term server to give
you the show line. As you can see, this is just another way to accomplish
the same task. I am running c2500-i-l.121-7. Here is the rest of the
pertinent config:

service linenumber (kinda cool, shows what line you are on when you first
connect)
line 1 16
 no exec
 exec-timeout 0 0
 transport input all
