If you're using multipoint interfaces, you must have a frame
map for both the endpoints and your local interface if you want
to be able to ping your local interface.

Without making any changes, turn on 'debug ip packet' and
you'll probably see 'encapsulation failed' when you try to
ping. This is because the router doesn't know what to do with
it. If you then add a frame map for your local ip address, it
will know which datalink to place the packet onto and it should
succeed.

That's extra work, though. How often do you really need to
ping your local interface? If you can ping the remote
interface you know your local interface is working.
