I just got an AGS+ for my home lab. I really like it, runs like a
supercharged 2500. Great for a frame switch.
Anyway It's got two 2E2T cards and two 2E2S cards. On the outside of
the case there's 4 ports that look like the 2500 serial ports. These
I'm using them for frame relay, and have no problems with.
There's also 4 ports I have never seen before. I've been doing
computers for 15 years, and have no idea what cable it would take. I'm
assuming they are serial connections because the show version command
shows 8 serial interfaces, and I can only account for 4.
They are about 3 inchs long, with two rows of pins. First row 19 pins,
Second row 18 pins. I had to put down my beer and recount the pins the
first time I got 37 as a pin count.
They remind me of a DB25 RS232 cable end, but there's too many pins and
the connector is an inch too long.
What are these ports? In the future, I would like to connect a 56k
dsu/csu to them to get frame switch functionality to another part of my
lab where I'm only using four wire 56k serial connections.
BTW, I think 4 wire 56k modules are cool and cheap. You can us them
back to back like a serial cable, and you can crimp the back to back
cables with RJ45 ends in about 3 mins. Much cheaper than using a real
cisco back to back serial cable. Look up, 2525 back to back, on CCO.
So what are these too many pins, inch too long, RS232 looking serial
ports? More importantly, can I get cables to connect them to some
external 56k dsu/csu's?
