Obv it is bi directional, I thought that much was "taken as read" however
most people go with the thought of putting the switching statement on the
interface where the VPI/VCI is coming in from the outside, and as we can see
it is actually in reverse, the statement is on the outgoing interface.

Even if you try to put this statement on the incoming interface i.e

interface ATM1/1/1
        no keepalive
        atm pvc 0 140 interface ATM1/1/2 1 140

Then the LS1010 will take the command and then switch this around and make
it :-

interface ATM1/1/2
        no keepalive
        atm pvc 1 140 interface ATM1/1/1 0 140

this should be bi-drectional!!! even if you configure the oppsite on the
outgoing interface it might take it but even if it does it will only show
under one of the interfaces.

Strangely enough this command does the following :-

Switch cells coming in on 1/1/1 with a vpi/vci pair of 0 / 140 and
switch
them out of atm 1/1/2 with a vpi / vci pair of 1/140

Same situation different vpi/vci with the other line under atm 1/1/2

        Cheers

Caslow's book pg. 261 shows an example of a PVC configuration on a
        LightStream 1010.
Here is what he shows as an example:

        interface ATM1/1/2
        no keepalive
        atm pvc 1 140 interface ATM1/1/1 0 140
        atm pvc 1 60 interface ATM1/1/1 0 60

I would think you would have to reflect this on the other interface
        ATM1/1/1, but I don't know for sure I've never done it. I'm using a
Fore
        systems switch.
