Never mind, I see that one of the routers is doing both AREA 1 and AREA
0 authentication... so yes, they would need to match on both sides.
I guess the questions are:
1. What areas do you actually want to authenticate
2. What sort of authentication -clear text or MD5 (you must decide)
Also, to the original poster, notice that you can find out what a router
actually THINKS it's configured for when you do SH IP OSPF or SH IP OSF
VIRT
This can be helpful as can debug ip ospf adj
