Hi Sundar,
Please do not use dialer maps on dialer interfaces, you
can run in troubles. The only exeption is when you put your
dialer int in a dialer rotary group, then dialer maps are OK.
I dont say its never work, in some IOS you dont have problems in
other releases you have....
If you whant be sure
Use static route pointing to an Interface only if the Interface type
is point to point (on Layer 2) or a broadcast Media.
If the interface is point to multipoint use the Ip Address as next hop.
I always prefer the next hop IP Address but i know sometime its not
possible.

Louis,
Ethernet, serial with hdlc enc., FR ptp are all OK. But dialer interface is
logical and you could associate multiple dialer map statements to it. So,
how would the router know which dialer map statement to use when the static
route is pointing to the dialer interface.
