something like "Enable NLSP on the link and make sure IPX RIP
updates do not cross the link."

In a situation like that you would want to turn on the RIP/SAP
updates and let NLSP alone do the job.

This isn't done by default because you could run NLSP on a LAN,
but IPX clients require RIP/SAP updates to function so you can
never disable RIP/SAP on a LAN link. However, there's not
reason NOT to disable them on a WAN link as they would simply
add redundant and unnecessary traffic.

At least, that's how I think it works. :-)
