The trick is to change the configuration register first to 0x3922 or use the sp
eed command on the line console 0 and set it to 115200. The 2600 and 3600 seri
es routers only support xmodem transfers. Then use the -R option to write the
image just to RAM and not directly to flash first. This way the image will be
downloaded to ram and then bootup immediately which is faster. You can also use
 the -y option for ymodem transfer which is also faster. You will still need t
o copy the image to flash once you finish booting up the router but now you can
 do this using the copy tftp flash command and copy the image through a lan int
erface instead.

and not all people have enough time and to wait for an IOS file to load
through a 9600bps connection.
Henry just to let you know this method will take forever to load. I would
recommend any other method if you have it.
