I just wanted to pass along this great FEC link for anyone considering
buying cisco hardware. Below that I pasted info for anyone considering a Cat
5K and FEC

Catalyst 5000 Series
Software release 2.4.x. Spanning Tree is not supported and must be disabled
on the FEC.
Software release 3.1 .x or later. Spanning Tree, UplinkFast, and PAgP
support added.
FEC can be configured on SUPII/III, WS-X5201, WS-X5203, WS-X5201R,
WS-X5225R, WS-U5531, and WS-U5537.
FEC is supported on the RSM as of Cisco IOS release 11.3(5)WA4(8).
