About the same issue, IRB .... let4s say I have:
R1 ----bridged----- R2 ----routed----- R3
BVI
Do I have to give BVI an ip address from the R1 segment? so by the time
R1 wants to ping R3, which is in a different subnet than R1, uses the
BVI ip address as default gateway to reach R3 ip add? OR, can I just
assign any IP add to the BVI as long as the BVI "number" matches the
bridge-group "number" ...
Thanks!

If you are routing and bridging IP, you have to remove the ip address on
the
physical interface and place it on the bvi. If you are only routing IP
but
routing & bridging IPX, then you don't need IP address on the bvi but
need
IPX network on the bvi.

Can someone tell me when I do and do not need an ip address on the BVI
interface when doing IRB.
