BGP Issues?

Hi all,

I have been studying BGP lately and I found two strange problems:

1-when redistributing from IGP protocols, I could not change the metric of the
redistributed routes with the Redistribute <IGP> metric x.
when I look to the BGP table it says Metric zero even if I change it by
the redistribute statement, but when I use the route map it works fine, but
when I look outside the AS, it says metric Zero again, how can I nail the
metric on the redistributed routed inside the BGP.

2-This issue, really strange, when I use neighbor statement inside the bgp and
make the loopback interface as the update interface, the BGP neighbors don't
see others even everything is correct, and the next hop is reachable by the
default route 0.0.0.0, but when I put static route that points to that
loopback address the BGP network comes up!!! In both cases I could ping the
loopback from the other side.

So why BGP doesn't see the neighbor loopback when I am using default route
like ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 1.2.3.4 and see it when I am using static route
like ip route 20.20.20.0 255.255.255.0 1.2.3.4

I am using 12.1(5).....

Any comments?

Shadi
