I have a very simple and straight multicast set up.
Router R6 Serial R1 Ethernet R5 Frame R2
On R6 have my RP set up, I am using only sparse mode,
So R6 is set up for ip pim send annouce. R1 is set up
as a mapping agent. Hence R1 is configured with ip pim
send discovery.
Since all the routers are configured with sparse mode,
I expected only R5 to be able to get the RP, which is
fine. However since R2 is not directly connected to R1
I expected sparse mode will not work, To my surprise,
Sparse mode on R2 does work fine.
As per Doyle vol2, If the multicast rec. are not
directly attached to the mapping agents then you need
to configure sparse-dense mode so that they can join
the RP not known groups in dense mode and sparse mode
for the RP known groups.
Am i missing something here?? Where i am wrong??
