You should set a static route to the summarized network to null0 then
redistribute that static route into RIP. For example if you have a
route to 10.10.10.0/28 and you need to have that route redistributed
into RIP on an interface that has the IP address of 192.168.12.1/24 then
you would create the static route 10.10.10.0/24 to null0 then
redistribute that static route into RIP which will be announced to the
RIP neighbor. This is one way to do it.

thanks for clarifying, however when I remove the host route and
redistribute
it with it's real mask of course it will not make it to the other side.
However Doyle (739 #2) suggests that if you use a static route of the
directly connected interface and change the mask then it should work,
but
don't seem to be having any joy with it. Where am I messing up?

RIP, even version 1, supports host routes. This is just one of those
strange things you run into when studying for the CCIE.
In the RFC it states that support of host routes is optional but Cisco
does support host routes.

Subject: RIP and Loopbacks in OSPF.......
I made an interesting observation, I wanted to know if other people are
experiencing the same thing, and the logic behind it. When
redistributing
between OPSF and RIP I noticed that the loopbacks in OSPF don't need to
be
summarized in order for RIP to see them. OSPF advertises a loopback as a
/32
by default and RIP has no problem with this. However, once I add the ip
ospf
network point-to-point command on the loopbacks thereby changing them
from a
/32 to their true mask, once again RIP cannot see them unless there is
some
sort of summarization or default route in place. I don't understand why
RIP
sees these routes as a /32, shouldn't they need the mask native to RIP
in
order to be seen in RIP ?
Does anyone have insight on this one?

Steve
