It depends on your experience level. If you're not very well versed on the
technology, I don't see how you can lose by going through Caslow's book, to
get the basic understanding of the technologies.
Personally, my studies would have suffered without Caslow there as a
reference. It's a must-have from my perspective.
I haven't read the CCIE Practical Studies guide, but my understanding is
that Volume 1 is only a portion of what you need for the actual exam.
