RE: Cheap TR Media Filters?

I was given a cable that was DB-9 on one end and Rj45 on the other. I
figured out the pin settings and created several of my own for lab work.
They seem to work fine. (I'll send the pinouts when I find them.) Can
someone tell us whether you really need a filter? If so, why?

Thanks,

Dan Owen

Subject: Cheap TR Media Filters?

Does anyone know of a source for inexpensive Token Ring DB-9 to RJ-45 media
filters? You can get them on www.blackbox.com for @ $45/pop, but that is a
bit more than I really want to pay. I have searched the GS archives and
ebay
to no avail.

Also, I am considering just making a DB-9 to RJ-45 plug without a filter. I
suspect that I may end up with more line errors that way, but this is just
for
a learning lab so some line errors are no big deal. Does anyone think this
may or may not work?

Thanks,

-Jonathan
