I'm using the 9-pin to RJ-45 serial terminal adapter that comes with Cisco
products, with the port 8 of the octopus cable connected directly to it, and
it's working just fine.
on my term server,
int loopback 0
ip sddress 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.255
ip host c3900 2008 1.1.1.1
and when I telnet c3900, up pops the menu screen for the 3900.
If you can't get it working try pressing the sysreq button on the back of
the switch to reset it - that is, if the switch doesn't have a configuration
that needs to be saved.
If it does, then try changing the baud rate on whichever line you're using
on the 2511 - for my example,
line 8
speed 1200
and change the baud rate to some of the common speeds (4800, 9600, 14400,
19200, etc) until you get the right one.
