You should be looking at the old 2900s and the 4000 family:

 290x C5K+Sup1
 2926T/F C5K+Sup2
 2926G C5K+Sup3+NFFC

 2948G/2980G C4K+Sup1
 400x C4K+Sup1/Sup2

 5xxx

You want to specifically avoid the following 29xx and 4xxx:

 29xx XL (Workgroup IOS)
 2948G-L3 (8540CSR IOS)
 2950 (C6K Native IOS)
 4840G (8540CSR IOS + MSFC IOS LSB)
 4908G-L3 (8540CSR IOS)
4912G C4K+Sup1 (CatOS, but GE only)

My guess would be, the 290x should be cheap on eBay or the like.
The 2926G will probably be pretty expensive, as they were when
they were still sold.

For something that will take a recent image (and is a pretty nice
box), I'd personally go with the 2948G. I think the resale price
for that (when you're done using it) should also be pretty high.
