Gregory,

Since it works for some but not all, I'd guess it's either a code
issue, or more likely a client configuration issue. First off, you need a
fairly recent client version to even see PureIP servers. I think 4.8 is
pretty good for NT and 2000. 3.3 I think is the latest for 98. When you
install the client, did you pick IP only, or one of the IP and IPX ones? If
you picked one with IPX, make sure in the properties that you perform SLP
discovery first, rather than SAP. If that looks good, do a 'sh mult gr' and
'sh mult rout' on the layer 2 side. The client ports should belong to
multicast group. Do a 'sh ip igmp gr' and 'sh ip igmp int' on the RSM to
verify that it's the designated router and all multicast groups exist. Hope
this helps.

Chuck

Subject: Using Multicast in Pure IP netware enivronment

I have a pretty simple network in that I have to 4006 catalyst switches one
with an RSM, one supports vlan 1 and the other vlan two, they are both
connected with gigabit uplinks, the switch with the RSM is connected to our
server room that is in turn connected to a 3524xl on which all of my servers
reside. The problem is that some users on the 2 network are unable to find
the servers, so I then enabled multicast routing and ip pim dense-mode on
each interface and set cgmp enable on both switches and this seem to help
but some users are still experiencing problems, also portfast is enabled on
all switchports, except for the gig uplinks. I want to keep this network as
a Pure IP enivronment and not use IPX to solve these problems. Am I missing
something?
