"Expect" is one of the best ways to automate any interactive application
such as telnet. I use it to telnet to routers and switches, to determine
status of interfaces, backup configs, tftp new configs etc. It runs on both
NT and Unix, and very easy to learn. The url is http://expect.nist.gov
