I have a question regarding this too: does this only apply on level-1-2
routers? I don't think you can configure a router as level-2 under the IS-IS
process, then go to one of the interfaces and configure that as a level-1.
Please advise. Thanks all!

Simple put the ISIS Circuit type applies to a single interface whereas the
ISIS type refers to the whole ISIS process. The tag is used to distinguish
between different ISIS Processes, which are then applied to different
interfaces.
