Troubleshooting Console server

Hi folks,
    I have a 2511 router that has two interfaces (1-8, 9-16) with an 8
port octopus cable. It was running fine as a console server for my
seven other routers until I decided to move them to another closet.
After that, the interface that controls lines 1-8 stopped functioning
correctly. When I reboot a managed router connected to one of these
lines, the line is initially clean (I can see the boot up) but then once
the managed router completes it's load, I cannot control the router and
sometimes I get gibberish on the screen (almost like if one changes the
baud or control-register settings). If I move the same octopus cable to
the second interface (lines 9-16), I am able to properly control the
managed router. Clearing lines and rebooting do not seem to have any
effect on the lines in question (1-8).
My question is: does anyone know or have a link to the command sets
that would allow me to determine whether the consoles lines have gone
crappers or if if there is a loose connection or something to that
extent or maybe I've just overlooked something.
Thanks,
Mau.

The config is pretty basic and all the routers have 0x2102 as the
register:
2511 Terminal Server:
line 1 16
 no exec
 exec-timeout 120 0
 transport input telnet

Managed Router(s):
line con 0
 exec-timeout 0 0
 privilege level 15
 logging synchronous
 transport input none
 escape-character 27
