Paul,

by default all your switches are in VTP Server mode
and the changes get propagated as when they see a
higher sequence number as Ki mentioned.

VTP is not a very robust protocol and hence its better
to have less number of servers. If you accidentally
delete VLANs on one switch...ur network might go down.
