Folks:

I just have to weigh in on this one.

1) Sparkest, you don't say what you are willing to work for.
2) You don't say how much other relevant experience you have.
3) I am sympathetic to your plight--to a point.
4) This is not a flame, but an observation.

Personally, I have a lot of experience in this industry, and I consider
it my obligation to keep abreast of salaries, jobs, and opportunities
that I might fit. I do not restrict myself to any particular area when
I consider those things. Who else besides you is going to stand up for
all the hard work that you have done?

I suggest that you review salaries for folks who have your
certifications AND experience. Don't restrict yourself to Calgary, or
even Canada for that matter. One thing that this business needs
desperately is folks who are willing to work and not afraid to take
chances. Did you not take chances obtaining your CCIE in the first
place? I know I have.

Get out there, pound the ground, take what you can get, and move ahead.
You may not get the perfect job next week, but stick in there and it
will come. Put forth as much time and effort into your search as you
did obtaining your CCIE. Don't let things like a 'soft job market'
stand in your way. This isn't the first time the IT market has sucked,
and it won't be the last. Don't let it claim you, too.

Take care,

Scott

The market in Canada is pretty poor and has been for at least a year.
Vancouver and Toronto are the hot spots for Cisco-related employment -
but
elsewhere like Calgary - things are quite cool.

It turns out that sparkest pig is a ccie according to what he sent me,
this
is a shame that he cannot find a job that pays more than that, if
anybody
knows of inside opportunities, lets forward the favor directly to him
(Not
this list)...hsm_p@hotmail.com.

I will also ask some of my Calgary and Vancouver contacts about the
situation up there in Canada to see if there is opportunity.

Remember if you demand it, they will pay it.

Good Luck.

Raphael
