Cat5500 default route

When configured a default route on Cat5500 to a router on the same Ethernet seg
ment, the router starts to receiving a continues pinging from the Cat. You can
see that when you do "deb ip icmp" on the router. Is that a desired scenario wi
th the Cat pining the router or a corrective action must be undertaken?
