If it's Cisco to Cisco, both ends, and it's never likely to change, you
can safely use HDLC. However, since you may not be able to control the
far end local loop, PPP may be a better choice. I do either one
depending upon who is controlling the other end.

Real-world question - on a typical point-to-point T1,
is not the default HDLC encapsulation generally used?
There seems to be school of thought that says PPP is
the way to go. In commons scenarios, are these 2 interchangeable?
