One thing I have done to manage my ccielab mail is to create mail rules
which filter on keywords like BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, multicast, etc. in the
subject and moves them to a separate folder automagically. I find this gets
my inbox down to about 20 or 30 messages a day that I have to manually sort
and I can transfer them to the appropriate folder. When I am studying a
particular protocol or technology, I just crack open the appropriate folder
and dig in. It has worked thus far to keep my focus on the matters at hand
rather than the thousand daily interesting subjects that fill my mailbox.:-)
