It seems that the role of English reading comprehension has gone up
considerably with respect to passing the exam. I too had the experience of
finishing the material with 1.5 hours to spare. My English is pretty good
so I can't blame my failure on my ability to read and comprehend English.
But I can say that your ability to read 'into' the directions is critical
for passing the exam. You have to really dig. I found the hardest part of
the exam to be interpreting the directions - once I figured out what was
being asked, it was relatively easy to implement. At the end of the day, I
learned too late that there were many subtleties that I had skimmed over in
my race to cover all the material earlier in the day - I ran out of time
doing all the fixes that needed to be done based on subtleties I discovered
on my third reading of the directions.
So, you really have a balancing act of getting through the material qui
ckly
versus being extremely careful to dot the i's and cross the t's. It's not
clear to me what the best attack is. My inclination is to be more careful
on the first pass, but of course that will cut down the time at the end for
going over the stuff. My strong opinion is that the hardest part of passing
the exam (at least for me) is not knowing the technologies, but being able
to interpret the directions. Maybe some of the folks who passed the 1-day
exam recently can shed some light on their strategy.

        Thanks,

          Wayne
