Personally I would take a look at the "Hardware-Software Compatibility
Matrix" on CCO and look for the version recommend by Cisco on my platform.
The current detailed versions are 12.1.1 and 12.2.1 for 2500 routers. You
can run into all kinds of weird issues with code outside these boundaries. I
once loaded 12.0.16 code on a 2621 and it no longer recognized the Fast
Ethernet ports and it was disaster recovery time.

I was using 12.1(11) on my 2500's and I couldn't config ip addresses on
virtual-token-ring interfaces. Had to downgrade to 12.1(5) to make it work.
