Typically, there are two methods for configuring a switch for IP management:
One way is to assign the management interface of the switch itself to a particu
lar VLAN and then giving it an IP address relevant for that VLAN.
The other method is to assign a management IP address for the switch in each VL
AN that you want to manage the switch from. If you do not assign an IP address
for the switch in a particular VLAN, you will not be able to manage the switch
from that particular VLAN. If you assign an IP address to the switch in only on
e VLAN, it effectively accomplishes the same thing as the option above.
The Cat. 5K uses the former method, the 3920 the latter. So in your case, when
you assign an IP address to the TrBRF that is the parent of the TrCRF containin
g the port your router is connected to, that IP address effectively IS the 3920
itself on that subnet.
