You don't need a mau. You will need a media filter if you router has a DB-9
token-ring interface.

The only problem could be the connector. On the switch side, it is RJ45
type
connector, most routers have 9 ping D type connectors. In this case you
would need the right cable. If the guys only have the type 1 cable which
connects 9pin to the MAU than you would need a MAU.
I have the same problem at my home Lab, I use the MAU because I only
have
the type 1 cable. (which converts 9pin to RJ45 type)
