we usually refer to a cable that is an exact mirror image on either end as a
'rolled' cable. The standard baby-blue or black cisco console cable is an
example of a rolled cable.

a crossover cable is a cable that basically cross-connects transmit and
receive signals, and the corresponding control signals between the
connectors on the cable. it's also known sometimes as a 'null modem' cable,
because it (in the olden serial interface days) was used to eliminate the
need for a modem on a back-to-back connection between computers.
